The Original Doctor Who: Timeline

The adventures of the original Doctor are many and varied, and deserve a chronological recounting. Here is your game card for history as rewritten by the TARDIS, freshly updated with new information from the Companion Chronicles as well as the television series...
  • ~15 billion years ago: The TARDIS repeatedly, but deliberately, malfunctions in order to prevent itself from being destroyed by the Big Bang. In the process it warps the minds of the Doctor, Susan, Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright, turning them against one another. (Story 3: The Edge of Destruction
  • ~3 billion years ago: The Doctor and Susan arrive on the Moon after narrowly escaping Gallifrey, inadvertently kidnapping Quadrigger Stoyn in the process. They learn that Earth is being seeded by an alien race known as the Archaeons, who traps themselves and the trio of Time Lords in a time bubble as they attempt to deconstruct the TARDIS. (Companion Chronicles: The Beginning)
  • 100,000 BC: Abducted by the Doctor and Susan, Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright arrive into the midst of a caveman tribe's attempt to conquer fire. (Story 1: An Unearthly Child)
  • 1184 BC: The Doctor, Vicki and Steven Taylor arrive during the Fall of Troy. Vicki leaves the TARDIS and assumes the identity of Cressida, marrying prince Troilus. Trojan handmaiden Katarina joins the crew. (Story 20: The Myth Makers) Some time later, after Troilus and Vicki/Cressida resettle in Carthage, she discovers a splinter of phoenix egg and nurses it back to form as a companion who she can share her sorrows and alienation with. (Companion Chronicles: Frostfire
  • 2613-2494 BC: While fleeing from both the Monk and the Daleks, the TARDIS with the Doctor, Steven Taylor and Sara Kingdom arrive in Ancient Egypt. (Story 21: The Daleks' Master Plan)
  • 64 AD: The Doctor, Vicki, Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright arrive in Ancient Rome in time to witness the fire caused by Nero. (Story 12: The Romans)
  • 1066 AD: The Doctor, Vicki and new companion Steven Taylor encounter the Monk meddling in the Viking invasion of England. (Story 17: The Time Meddler)
  • 1191 AD: The TARDIS with the Doctor, Vicki, Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright arrive in Palestine during the Crusades and meet both Richard the Lionheart and Saladin. (Story 14: The Crusade)
  • 1289 AD: The Doctor, Susan, Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright encounter Marco Polo in the Mongolian desert and accompany him to the palace of Kublai Kahn. (Story 4: Marco Polo)
  • ~1450 AD: The Doctor, Susan, Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright arrive in Aztec Mexico before the arrival of the Spanish, during which time Barbara is mistaken for the goddess Yetaxa. (Story 6: The Aztecs)
  • 1572 AD: The Doctor and Steven Taylor nearly part company over whether or not to avert the Massacre of St. Bartholomew's Eve. (Story 22: The Massacre of St. Bartholomew's Eve)
  • 17th century AD: The Doctor and new companions Ben Jackson and Polly arrive in Cornwall to foil the plot of pirate captain Samuel Pike. (Story 28: The Smugglers)
  • 1769-70 AD: The Doctor, Susan, Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright are stranded aboard the Endeavour with Captain Cook as it makes its historic discovery of Australia. (Companion Chronicles: Transit of Venus)
  • 1794 AD: The Doctor, Susan, Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright become embroiled in the intrigue of the French Revolution. (Story 8: The Reign of Terror)
  • 1812 AD: The Doctor, Steven and Dodo are caught up in both Napoleon's invasion of Russia and another more insidious, alien threat. (Companion Chronicles: Mother Russia)
  • 1814 AD: The TARDIS lands in London during a "frost fair" on what may be the coldest day in human history. Teaming up with Jane Austin, the Doctor, Steven and Vicki discover the cause of the cold: a heat-sucking phoenix egg recovered from Tunis (formerly Carthage). They destroy the egg, but a minuscule splinter is lodged in Vicki's eye. (Companion Chronicles: Frostfire)
  • 1872 AD: While fleeing from time traveling Daleks, the materialization of the TARDIS with the Doctor, Vicki, Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright aboard causes the abandonment of the Marie Celeste. (Story 16: The Chase)
  • 1881 AD: Much to everyone's chagrin, the Doctor, Steven Taylor and Dodo Chaplet become involved in the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral. (Story 25: The Gunfighters)
  • 1903 AD: A crashed alien probe in Siberia is intercepted by the Doctor, Ian, Barbara, Susan and an itinerant pilgrim named Grigory. (Companion Chronicles: The Wanderer)
  • 1912 AD: The Doctor, Steven Taylor and Vicki arrive in England and are embroiled in the plot of an alien intelligence connected to the Piltdown discovery. (Companion Chronicles: The Suffering).
  • 1930 AD: While fleeing the Daleks, the Doctor, Steven Taylor and Sara Kingdom arrive in a Hollywood studio. (Story 21: The Daleks' Master Plan)
  • 1963 AD: Coal Hill School student Susan Foreman exhibits puzzling, unearthly intelligence, prompting teachers Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright to follow her home. They arrive at a junkyard in Totter's Lane, in which they find the TARDIS, meet the Doctor and are abducted into the year 10,000 BC. (Story 1: An Unearthly Child)
  • 1964 AD: After escaping the Massacre of St. Bartholomew's Eve, the Doctor and Steven Taylor meet their new companion, Dodo Chaplet, who may be a descendant of Steven's after a liason with a woman in 1572. (Story 22: The Massacre of St. Bartholomew's Eve)  Approximately in this same year, the Doctor, Susan, Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright return to Earth, but an accident reduces them to the size of insects. The problem is only solved by them leaving Earth again. (Story 9: Planet of Giants)
  • 1965 AD: Using a Dalek time machine captured on the planet Mechanus, Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright leave the TARDIS and return ot London. (Story 16: The Chase)
  • 1966 AD: Fleeing a Dalek time machine, the TARDIS with the Doctor, Vicki, Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright visit the Empire State Building, bewildering a visiting hick.  (Story 16: The Chase) That same year in London, the TARDIS with the Doctor and Dodo Chaplet fight the War Machines under the rule of the military supercomputer WOTAN. After the battle, Dodo takes the opportunity to leave the Doctor and is replaced by Ben Jackson and Polly. (Story 27: The War Machines)
  • ~1973 AD: The Doctor is caught in a "time eddy," preventing him from directly joining his second and third incarnations in defeating the mad Time Lord hero Omega. He is still able to contribute calculations and his own unique brand of "encouragement." (Story 65: The Three Doctors
  • 1986 AD: The TARDIS with the Doctor, Ben Jackson and Polly arrive at an Antarctic space research facility in time to witness the return of the twin planet Mondas to Earth and fight an invasion by the Cybermen. Mondas is destroyed by overabsorbing energy from its twin and the Cyberman invasion is averted. However, worn out with old age, the Doctor collapses in the TARDIS and regenerates into his second incarnation. (Story 29: The Tenth Planet)
  • 1996 AD: While fleeing a Dalek time machine, the TARDIS with the Doctor, Vicki, Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright unknowingly get lost in a haunted house at the Festival of Ghana, theorizing that they had somehow gotten into humanity's dark subconscious. (Story 16: The Chase)
  • 2004 AD: Ian Chesterton observes a Transit of Venus, which leads him to recall his previous adventure with the Doctor, Susan and Barbara Wright aboard the Endeavour with Captain Cook. (Companion Chronicles: Transit of Venus)
  • 2013 AD: A long-retired Ian Chesterton is serving as the Chairman of the Governors for Coal Hill School. (The Day of the Doctor
  • 21st-22nd century AD: The Doctor, Susan, Quadrigger Stoyn and the Archaeons are released from a time bubble on the Moon by the first human lunar colony, "Giant Leap Base." The Archaeons are not pleased with how life on Earth has evolved and initiate plans to purge the planet, pitting their 3 billion year old technology against the fully modern technology of the human military. (Companion Chronicles: The Beginning)
  • 2164 AD: The Doctor, Susan, Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright arrive on Earth and bring an end to the Dalek conquest that began in 2150. Ian is initially flumoxed as they had defeated the Daleks in their first encounter, which the Doctor tells him was in the far distant future. Susan opts to remain on Earth with her new husband David. (Story 10: The Dalek Invasion of Earth)
  • 2493 AD: The TARDIS with the Doctor, Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright land on the planet Dido and rescue a stranded Vicki, who joins the crew. (Story 11: The Rescue)
  • 28th century AD: The TARDIS with the Doctor, Susan, Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright arrive on the Sense-Sphere where they uncover a human plot to exploit the planet. (Story 7: The Sensorites)
  • 3999 AD: While fleeing the Daleks, The Doctor, Steven Taylor and Sara Kingdom arrive inside a giant clock that is central to the security system of the Solar System. There, they must face a difficult choice to end a system of oppression that will weaken the defenses of the solar system and set in motion the Dalek master plan they are fleeing from. (Companion Chronicles: Guardian of the Solar System).
  • 4000 AD: The TARDIS with the Doctor, Steven Taylor and Katarina lands on Kembel and becomes embroiled with the Dalek's master plan for reconquering of the Solar System. While travelling in and out of this time, they journey to the planets Kembel, Desperus, Mira, Tiga and Earth. They also meet Sara Kingdom, who joins the crew after Katarina dies. (Story 21: The Daleks' Master Plan)
  • ~1,000,000 AD: The Doctor, Susan, Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright arrive on Skaro and help the peaceful Thals to defeat their ancient adversaries, the Daleks, once and for all. (Story 2: The Daleks)
  • 10,000,000 AD: The TARDIS with the Doctor, Steven Taylor and Dodo Chaplet arrive on a human colony ship leaving the Earth, which is being consumed by the Sun. There, Dodo almost destroys humanity with the flu. (Story 23: The Ark)
  • 10,000,700 AD: The Doctor, Steven Taylor and Dodo Chaplet return to the human colony ship - now named The Ark after their own suggestion 700 years earlier - to witness the humans in subjugation under their previous servants, the Monoids. (Story 23: The Ark)
Events of Unknown Age...
  • The Doctor and Susan arrive on the planet Quinnis in the Fourth Universe, where they bring rain to the parched planet. After this experience, they resolve to settle on Earth in 1963 for a while. (Companion Chronicles: Quinnis
  • The Doctor, Susan, Ian and Barbara materialize on the Earth Benchmarking Vessel Nevermore, which navigates through space by punching holes in the fabric of the universe, which in turn invites creatures from the void beyond. (Companion Chronicles: Here There Be Monsters)
  • Sometime in the future, the Doctor, Vicki, Ian and Barbara visit the planet Jobis just as a group of space pirates known as The Rocket Men invade. (Companion Chronicles: The Rocket Men) Not long after, the remnants of the Rocket Men begin to war for control of their old territories, running afoul of The Doctor, Steven Taylor and Dodo Chaplet.   • The TARDIS lands on an arid and dying world, trapping the Doctor, Steven and Vicki between two warring species stranded on the planet: the Drahvins and the Rills. (Story 18: Galaxy Four
  • While on the run from the Daleks, The Doctor, Steven Taylor and Sara Kingdom arrive in a high tech house on the planet Ely that seems to grant any wish of its inhabitants. Sara's consciousness is imprinted on the house in order to give it the capacity to understand intention and make decisions about which wishes to grant and which not to grant. A thousand years later, after such technology is lost, an investigator named Robert interviews the house to decide if it should be destroyed as a relic of black magic. (Companion Chronicles: Home Truths) Later, during a time of plague, Robert and his daughter are compelled to remain in the safety of the house for 12 years. (Companion Chronicles: The Drowned World) Eventually Robert's daughter leaves the house, never to return, but Robert is still trapped. He learns how to summon the Doctor, who once again materializes in the house on Ely. (Companion Chronicles: Guardian of the Solar System)  
  • The Doctor, Steven and Dodo become trapped in the realm of the Celestial Toymaker, who the Doctor has met before. (Story 24: The Celestial Toymaker)
  • In the far future, the Doctor, Steven and Dodo arrive on a planet where the ruling classes thrive by literally sucking the energy from a slave race. After destroying their machine, Steven elects to remain on the planet to act as mediator. (Story 26: The Savages)
  • The Doctor joins his other 12 incarnations in rescuing Gallifrey from destruction by the Daleks on the last day of the Time War. Presumably the Tenth and Eleventh Doctors, along with the War Doctor, asked him to begin the centuries-long series of complex calculations necessary for placing an entire planet in stasis in a pocket-universe.
