The Moose Country (1927)

The following Fox Varieties travelogue video is a study in Canadian wilderness romanticism. It opens in Everytown, bustling with activity and automobiles. Weary, the man trades it all in for a canoe and the rugged northlands, reigned over by the majestic monarch, the moose.

This scenery is stunning and I envy the humble camp beside the white water, with its stylish tourist of 1927 enjoying both the vista and his pipe. However I do find it a little hard to be excited about the moose, if only because every now and then, my city does get a moose running through our downtown core. As a friend of mine remarked of the event, no matter how hard we try to make Canada look like a cosmopolitan, modern nation, something like that has to happen...

Although I have heard moose bites can be pretty nasty ...
