VEx December Contest - American Pickers Season 1

Our friends at History have given us a very special and cool giveaway for the holiday month of December. We've got two sets of the season one DVDs from the series American Pickers!

What is American Pickers you ask?
Part sleuths, part antiques experts, and part cultural historians – Mike and Frank’s adventures bring them to small towns across the country in search of weird and wonderful Americana. Each treasure hunt leads them to fascinating, quirky characters – everyday people with stories that open a window onto American life.

As professional “pickers,” these childhood buddies comb through memorabilia and artifacts, hoping to find treasures among the trash. Sometimes they make a few bucks; and sometimes they walk away with little more than the history of an item.

To enter the contest, just leave a comment to this post. On midnight, Dec. 26th, I'll draw two names out of the tophat.

In the meantime, American Pickers, the #1 new cable series of 2010, returns for new episodes of its second season beginning tomorrow, Monday, December 6 at 9pm ET on History. Be sure to check it out!

And the winners are: I had to redraw for the giveaway, and while tanya904 is awaiting her copy, ArtSnark can look forward to theirs! Check your inbox for a message! Thank you both, and to everyone, for your continued support of Voyages Extraordinaires!

I wonder if the "pickers" have ever came across any original Courvoisier Cels from the Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs film?

The thing I don't like about this show is that they say they are preserving history. In reality they are trying to sucker people out of "antiques" and resell them at an often more than substantial profit. Just quit with the "preserving history" sham and show it for what it is, them making a buck....

I've caught a couple episodes of this show and love it! It seems like the genuinely take pleasure in the way they make a living!

Would love a copy of the DVDs!

This blog is extraordinary! Everytime I get a chance to check it out I'm delighted.

Yay! I love this show. Maybe a little sensationalistic at times, but I love to see the crazy stuff they find.

How fun! I've only caught a few episodes but they are fun.I used to manage an antiques shop & we'd get the pickers in all the time selling. Always enjoyed their finds & stories

The only series of any type I regularly follow is American Pickers. It is a steampunk dream of great old, beautifully made Americana that is lovingly rescued and appreciated!

And to correct an earlier poster, they do not "sucker" people, but frequently pay more than the people themselves quote. They have to make a profit, and have to cover the cost of finding, transporting, storing, and selling their treasures. In a recent episode they returned to the place where they'd bought some old sideshow posters and gave half their profit to the original seller.
